Slovenia vs Croatia: Luka Doncic Ready for Olympic Qualifier
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is ready to lead the Slovenian countrywide crew in their quest for a niche inside the Paris Olympics. The journey begins at the pre-Olympic qualifying match in Piraeus. Their first recreation is on Tuesday as Slovenia vs Croatia, a crew that includes Ivica Zubac, Dario Saric, and Mario Hezonja.

Slovenia faced challenges with key players like Vlatko Cancar and Edo Muric recovering from ACL injuries in Slovenia vs Croatia, missing them from the team that competed in last year’s FIBA World Cup. Despite their absence, Luka Doncic led Slovenia to their best ever seventh place finish.
There was also a change in the roster, with Josh Nebo taking the naturalized spot instead of Mike Tobey. Doncic expressed gratitude to Tobey for his contributions in helping Slovenia qualify for the Olympics.
I’ve already thanked Mike personally, but I want to do it again for everything he’s done for our national team, Doncic said. Josh has been fantastic and quickly integrated into our team and system. The team spirit is fantastic in the Slovenia vs Croatia. We spend a lot of time together, enjoying ourselves, and most importantly, we’re eager to start and showcase our strength.
Despite Edo Muric’s return from injury, Doncic will continue to lead Slovenia as their captain. He values the opportunity to play for his country, describing it as always an honor.
I love playing basketball, and I feel fortunate that it’s my job. Every time I wake up knowing there’s a practice or a game ahead, it brings me joy, Doncic expressed. It’s always a privilege to represent my country. Playing for Slovenia means a lot to me, and whenever I can, I’ll be there on the court.
In Piraeus, only one team will earn a spot in the Olympics, and Doncic and his teammates are determined to secure that opportunity. Drawing on past successes, Doncic, as a team leader, understands the importance of this challenge.
Making it to the Olympics would be huge, not just for me but for the whole team and, I believe, for all of Slovenia, Doncic emphasized. Qualifying isn’t easy, and we’ve done it once before. It would be a tremendous honor for us to do it again.
