So, if you’re in Dubai flood, you might want to grab an umbrella and stay indoors for a while.

Crazy heavy rains hit the Middle East hard on Tuesday. It was so intense that schools in the UAE had to shut down, and even the Dubai International Airport’s tarmac got flooded! And it’s not just Dubai flood feeling the wrath of Mother Nature. Oman got hit badly. Sadly, at least 18 people lost their lives in Oman because of this wild weather.

Now get this, these record breaking rains were not just a one day thing. Nope, they are sticking around until Wednesday, according to the authorities. It’s as if the rain transformed the entire region into a waterpark overnight.

Alright, buckle up for the latest update! Over in Oman, right next door to the UAE, things got real serious with another rainstorm that ended up tragically claiming the lives of at least 18 people. Heartbreakingly, approximately 10 schoolkids, along with an adult, were swept away in a vehicle. Officials are on high alert because they’re expecting more heavy thunderstorms with crazy winds and even hail, straight through the night and into Wednesday.

People stuck in Dubai:

Social media’s blowing up with videos showing planes at Dubai International Airport practically swimming through the floodwaters. That’s right, this airport, home base for Emirates, is usually buzzing with activity, welcoming over 80 million visitors in 2023 alone. It’s the second busiest airport globally, connecting to a whopping 262 destinations across 104 countries by over 100 airlines.

But it’s not just the airport feeling the squeeze. The heavy rains turned Dubai’s highways into rivers, leaving drivers stranded as they ditched their cars right on the road. By Tuesday evening, Dubai was already swimming in nearly five inches of rain that’s a whole year’s worth of rain in just one day.

This region isn’t used to this kind of chaos. We’re talking about a place that usually stays bone dry, except for the occasional winter sprinkle. But these storms? They’re causing havoc, turning the desert into a waterpark.

And it’s not just Dubai and Oman getting pounded. Other neighbors like Qatar and Saudi Arabia are feeling the wet vibes too. Now, it’s still early to point fingers at global warming, but you got wonder, right? I mean, with all this talk about a warmer atmosphere holding more moisture, it’s not far-fetched to think it’s playing a part in these intense storms.

In response, authorities are urging people to hunker down at home, park their cars in safe spots away from Dubai flood zones, and keep an eye out for any updates. Private schools hit pause, and government employees are working from the comfort of their homes. Let’s just hope this wild weather calms down soon.

Well, the airport saga isn’t over yet! Looks like Wednesday brought more chaos with access roads blocked by flooding, and airlines like Emirates, the big cheese carrier, dealing with major flight delays. Even budget airline Fly Dubai had to throw in the towel and cancel all flights until 10 a.m. local time.

And hold onto your boarding passes, because Emirates is putting a pause on check-ins for folks leaving Dubai from 8:00 a.m. Wednesday until midnight Thursday! Why? They’re blaming it on “operational challenges” caused by the lousy weather and road conditions.

One passenger, Bilal, told CNN he spent the whole night camped out at the airport with hundreds of other stranded souls. Poor guy flew in from Hong Kong late Tuesday and found himself with zero transport options out of the terminal. Imagine being caught between a rock and a hard place.
