The Mirage Hotel and Casino, a well known landmark on the bustling Las Vegas Strip. Which is preparing to close its doors for good after delighting visitors for over three decades. This legendary destination, famous for its extravagant shows. By luxurious accommodations, and of course, its mesmerizing volcano display, has become a cherished part of Las Vegas history.
The Mirage, a resort with 3,000 rooms, will stop running on July 17. It’s going to have a big renovation that will last for three years. During this time, they’re going to change everything about the Mirage. So, the tropical theme and all the things that make the Mirage special will disappear.
In 1989, casino tycoon Steve Wynn launched the Mirage, marking the start of a new era for luxury resorts along the Strip. While, it was a trendsetter, being the first resort to feature a sidewalk attraction: a mesmerizing volcano.
This innovation inspired other famous resorts like the Bellagio and Venetian to follow suit. With their own attractions like dancing fountains and intricate canals.
On its Facebook account, the Mirage shared a message anticipating a thrilling new chapter as Hard Rock Las Vegas takes over. So, they expressed excitement for what lies ahead, promising to bring entertainment, innovation, and top notch hospitality to the Strip.
The post has inundated with comments filled with cherished memories from visitors. By highlighting the deep connection people have with the Mirage and its legacy.
Alongside its iconic volcano attraction, the Mirage boasted other quintessential Las Vegas offerings. One of its most famous draws was the mesmerizing white tiger show presented by Siegfried and Roy. Audiences enchanted by the majestic animals and the magical performances put on by the legendary duo.
Additionally, the Mirage was host to a captivating Cirque du Soleil show set to the timeless music of the Beatles. This unique collaboration combined the artistry of Cirque du Soleil’s acrobatics and theatrics with the beloved songs of the Beatles. By creating an unforgettable experience for spectators.

The resort set to make a grand return in 2027 under the name Hard Rock Las Vegas. It will undergo a remarkable transformation, featuring a striking 700 foot tall hotel tower shaped like a guitar, reminiscent of its sister property in Florida. However, with this exciting renovation comes change. The beloved volcano, a symbol of the Mirage’s allure for decades, will demolished to make room for new accommodations. While this marks the end of an era, it signifies the dawn of a new chapter for the resort.
The reimagined Hard Rock Las Vegas aims to redefine luxury and entertainment on the Strip. Which offering guests a world class experience filled with music, excitement, and top notch hospitality. MGM Resorts purchased the Mirage from Wynn back in 2000. Then, in 2022, they sold it to Hard Rock International for over $1 billion. This isn’t Hard Rock’s first venture in Las Vegas, as they previously owned the hotel now known as the Virgin Hotel, located just off the Strip.
With this acquisition, Hard Rock is gearing up for a triumphant return to the heart of Las Vegas. Which ready to leave their mark once again on the iconic Strip.
Over 3,000 Mirage workers will start losing their jobs from July onwards. Hard Rock has pledged to provide over $80 million in severance pay. The Culinary Workers Union, representing about half of Mirage’s employees. Which stated that affected workers will receive $2,000 for each year they worked. While with the chance to come back once the hotel reopens.
For guests who have bookings at the Mirage beyond July 14, their reservations will canceled, and they will receive refunds. As for casino chips, they must used by July 14 at the Mirage itself.
However, if guests are unable to use them by then, they can redeem them at the neighboring. Treasure Island for an additional 120 days after the Mirage closes its doors. This ensures that guests can still enjoy their gaming experience. And make the most of their casino chips even after the Mirage ceases operations.
