On July 4, Kelsey Plum praised A’ja Wilson, declaring, It’s a unanimous vote this year [for her as MVP], you feel me? Just saying, during a media conference. Plum considers Wilson the clear MVP candidate, and her assertion seems justified. Since returning from the Paris Olympics, the 2024 gold medalist has been exceptionally dominant, leading the league in scoring with 27.5 points per game.

Plum, who recently overtook Wilson in scoring, once again highlighted Wilson’s impressive performance. I mean, unanimous MVP, but unanimous MVP as a human being, Plum told Dime after the Aces’ 72-67 victory over the Sun. Despite Plum’s standout game, where she scored 27 points and helped secure the win, Plum emphasized Wilson’s exceptional presence both on and off the court.

Kelsey Plum is just a light. Just the type of human being she is. We need to cherish what happening live, Plum added. Wilson’s impact on the game and her demeanor have influenced Plum. With the Aces clinching a playoff spot, the question remains: Will Plum and Wilson’s combined excellence lead to a third consecutive WNBA championship for the Aces?

Wilson’s Stellar Season Drives Aces Playoff Push

Despite securing a playoff spot, the Aces, currently 4th in the WNBA standings, still face challenges ahead. With Wilson scoring 20 points and shooting 53.3% from the field in their recent game, the Aces have quietly won four straight, now holding a 21-12 record. They have a chance to improve their position with a matchup against the Storm on September 15.

The Aces will also face the top-ranked New York Liberty and the strong Indiana Fever soon. They have a 2-1 series lead over the Storm and might meet them again in the playoffs. Alongside the team’s championship ambitions, Wilson is also vying for the MVP title.

It would be incredible, Wilson said about potentially joining legends like Sheryl Swoops, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson in the MVP club. Just having talks with those GOATs and Hall of Famers has been special, and to have a chance to be alongside them at such a young age is something I don’t take for granted.

Wilson is among the top 4 in points, blocks, rebounds, and steals, leading in points and blocks. After finishing 4th in MVP voting last year, she dedicated her offseason to improving and is now close to achieving her goal.
