Holger Rune Falls to Taylor Fritz in Shanghai Showdown
Taylor Fritz was outstanding; his serve was 73%, and he also made nine ace serves. His first serve was formidable throughout the match. And he could only experience one breakpoint, and that was in the first game. This extra pressure in today’s match affected the serving of Holger Rune. Committing five double faults; the percentage of points behind his first shot being less than 50 percent.

Taylor Fritz Dominates Holger Rune to Reach Shanghai Quarter-Finals
He defeated Holger Rune in under an hour to advance to the Shanghai quarter-finals. The American broke Rune early in the second set after a double fault, taking full control of the match. Despite wasting three match points in the final game, Fritz capitalized on a loose drop shot from Rune to seal the victory. This win also marked Fritz’s 73rd Masters 1000 triumph, adding to his strong season as he moves closer to the title.
Taylor Fritz has now reached the quarter-finals of his eighth Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. He only needs a quarter-final finish in Montreal or Toronto to complete the full Masters 1000 series.
Fritz has also more than 4000 points in the ATP Race, leaving behind Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, and Novak Djokovic in the race for the ATP Finals. His run this season, which includes a US Open final, positions him well to make the field of 32 to get into this event.
At the US Open, Fritz defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semi-final but was defeated by number one seed Jannik Sinner in the final. Sinner beat the odds in the third set coming from behind to win the match in straight sets; 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
