Since its launch in 2016, the WilDCats at the Capitol internship program at the University of Kentucky. Created through a collaboration between the Office of Federal Relations. The Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Student Government Association. The program has become a vital part of hands on learning for University of Kentucky students.

Gavin Cooper, a junior at the University of Kentucky majoring in community and leadership development. It has been actively involved in the WilDCats at the Capitol program during the Spring 2024 semester. He has been gaining valuable experience through an internship in the office of Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia.

My favorite thing about this program is getting real experience at a big level,” Cooper shared. “Everything we do here in D.C. has a big impact on our lives, and this is a chance to see how it all comes together.

At its heart, the program provides students with a semester-long adventure in the nation’s capital. This program is truly remarkable because it’s enabled me to acquire valuable internship experience. Without delaying my graduation,” Cooper expressed gratefully. Jackson will oversee and promote the WilDCats at the Capitol program, reflecting the university’s dedication to expanding its presence in Washington.
