Bayer Leverkusen Makes History, Undefeated Bundesliga Season
Bayer Leverkusen has etched their name in Bundesliga history books by achieving a remarkable feat: completing an entire season undefeated. This accomplishment marks the first time any team has achieved such a feat since the Bundesliga’s inception in 1963.
So, their journey culminated in a thrilling final match against Augsburg, where early goals paved the way for their triumph.
In their last game of the season, Bayer Leverkusen secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Augsburg. The match showcased the resilience and determination that defined Bayer Leverkusen undefeated campaign. While, the early goals, scored by Victor Boniface and Robert Andrich, set the tone for their triumphant finish.
Leverkusen didn’t lose any matches during the season, but they drew six times. This means they played six games where neither team won. So, they finished the season with a total of 90 points. That’s a lot of points and shows they played really well throughout the season.
The only team in the history of the Bundesliga, which is the German football league. Which have more points in a single season is Bayern Munich’s champions from the 2012-2013 season. They had 91 points. So, Bayer Leverkusen came very close to breaking that record.
Bayern Munich didn’t have the best ending to their season. They lost 4-2 in a match against Hoffenheim, a team they were playing against. This loss pushed them down to third place in the league standings.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart, another team in the league, won their match against Borussia Monchengladbach with a score of 4-0. Because of this win, Stuttgart moved up in the standings and ended up with one more point than Bayern Munich. It’s worth noting that this is the first time since the 2010-2011 season that Bayern Munich didn’t finish in the top two positions in the Bundesliga, which is the top football league in Germany.
Leverkusen’s success didn’t just stop in the Bundesliga. Throughout the entire season, they remained unbeaten in all competitions. This means they didn’t lose any matches in any of the tournaments they participated in.
They even made it to the final of both the German Cup and the Europa League, which are two major competitions in European football. Their coach, Alonso, has encouraged his team to take full advantage of this remarkable situation. He sees it as a unique opportunity for Leverkusen to achieve even more success and make their mark in football history.
Alonso, the coach, expressed his admiration for Leverkusen’s remarkable performance during the season. He highlighted that reaching 90 points in the league was a fantastic achievement, even though they narrowly missed breaking the record of 91 points.
What stood out even more to him was the fact that Leverkusen remained unbeaten throughout the entire season, which he described as extraordinary. He emphasized that this feat wasn’t just impressive in Germany but also across Europe.
Looking ahead, Alonso urged his team to focus on the upcoming challenges. He described the next week as unique due to the opportunities it presents, referring to the German Cup and Europa League finals. He emphasized the importance of staying motivated and maintaining high levels of performance to seize these opportunities.
Alonso also acknowledged the fans’ support and encouraged them to celebrate the team’s achievements.
However, he reminded everyone that there’s still work to be done and that the team would start preparing for the upcoming matches the next day. He emphasized the importance of rest and recovery to ensure that the team is in top form for the challenges ahead.
Today is a special day for the club. Becoming champions without losing any games is amazing and well deserved. It’s hard to believe, so we’ll need some time to really understand what we’ve achieved.
Our team has made history in the Bundesliga. Twenty years from now, we’ll all look back and be amazed that we were part of it.

Earlier this month, Leverkusen played against Roma in the Europa League semi-finals. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, meaning neither team won. However, this result was significant for Leverkusen because it marked their 49th consecutive game without a loss.
This incredible streak set a new record for the longest unbeaten run against European clubs since UEFA club competitions were introduced in 1955. In simpler terms, Leverkusen hadn’t been defeated in any European matches for a really long time, breaking a record that had stood for decades.
Leverkusen’s remarkable unbeaten streak started on August 12 with a dominant 8-0 win against FC Teutonia Ottensen in the German Cup. From that point on, they didn’t lose a single match. As they continued their undefeated run, they eventually surpassed the previous record set by Portuguese club Benfica. Benfica had held the record for 48 consecutive games without a loss, a streak that lasted from December 1963 to February 1965.
The Benfica team during that time was legendary, led by the iconic Eusebio. Not only did they maintain their unbeaten status, but they also achieved success by winning both the Portuguese league and cup while on their unbeaten run. This adds even more significance to Leverkusen’s accomplishment of breaking their long-standing record.
Under Alonso’s guidance, Leverkusen has maintained an impressive unbeaten record across different competitions. In the Bundesliga, they haven’t lost in 34 matches. They’ve also stayed undefeated in five German Cup matches and 12 Europa League games. Out of these 51 matches, Leverkusen won an impressive 42, showing their strength on the field.
Their success has positioned them on the brink of achieving a treble, which is winning three major trophies in a single season. They’ve already secured the Bundesliga title, breaking Bayern Munich’s 11-season streak of dominance.
Their next challenge comes on May 25, as they face second-tier Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final. Following that, they will clash against Atalanta in the Europa League final on May 22. These upcoming matches offer Leverkusen the opportunity to add two more trophies to their remarkable season.
