Angel Reese Keeps Double-Double Streak in Sky’s Loss to Liberty

The basketball star rookie Angel Reese extended her WNBA record. Angel Reese made consecutive double-doubles to 15 with 10 points and 10 rebounds. On the other hand the team blew a double digit lead in a 91-76 loss to the New York Liberty. On Thursday’s showdown at Barclays Center.

New York improved the best record in the WNBA to 19-4. While Chicago fell to 9-13 and was unable to replicate its previous performance. As the only team to beat the Liberty in Barclays Center this season.

While Reese was just 5-of-17 from the field and generally struggled against the New York frontcourt the double-double mark drew the attention of social media.

The Liberty with stars like Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu are considered the league’s best team. Despite Angel Reese’s impressive streak Chennedy Carter and Marina Mabrey initially stole the spotlight for Chicago.

Their quick start helped the Sky build a double-digit lead in the first half putting them on track to surprise New York on the road again. Then the Liberty turned things around.

The Liberty closed the half with a 14-3 run cutting the deficit to two. In the third quarter they took the lead with Ionescu recovering Fiebich hitting threes and the Stewart Jones duo dominating.

Chicago had a scare when Reese limped to the bench, but she returned and helped cut New York’s lead to one. She needed two points and five rebounds in the fourth quarter to continue her double-double streak.

Angel Reese reached double digits with an inside shot. The Sky trailed in the second half due to their struggles with outside shooting.

Mabrey was the only Sky player to make a three pointer. Meanwhile Ionescu, Fiebich, and Thornton hit outside shots and Stewart and Jones dominated Chicago’s frontcourt, showcasing the Liberty’s talent.

The only bright spot for the Sky was when Angel Reese reached her double-double. She’ll have a chance to extend her record to 16 in a rematch against New York on Saturday.
