Stephanie White Departs Sun Coach After Two Seasons

On Monday, the Connecticut Sun announced that Stephanie White departs as head coach of the Connecticut Sun. In her two seasons with the Sun, White had a record of 55 wins and 25 losses, including 28 wins and 12 losses this current season. During her tenure, the Sun attained the semifinals in two consecutive seasons, and she earned the WNBA Coach of the Year award in 2023.

Connecticut Sun President Jen Rizzotti described the decision to part ways as amicable after Stephanie White departs Sun coach. Rizzotti mentioned that White’s decision-making involved more than just basketball. She indicated that White would likely discuss her reasons for leaving at a later time.

With this change, the WNBA now has seven head-coaching openings. The Indiana Fever also recently moved on from their head coach, Christie Sides. Speculation about potential replacements has been sparked, especially since white has been linked to the fever.

The Chicago Sun-Times in earlier stories had named White as a possible replacement for coach of the Fever. The current appointment of White as the head coach of the Fever is not a new feeling for her since she was in the same post in 2015/16.

White admitted the impact of the decision was tough since it severed the separation between her and her family. However, she stressed that in terms of career progression as well as in the light of the current transparencies.

The Connecticut Sun will now begin the search for White’s replacement. Rizzotti mentioned that they hope to hire someone in the next few weeks.
