Jimmer Fredette on Injury and Team USA’s Early Exit from Olympics
Jimmer Fredette and the U.S. men’s 3×3 basketball team didn’t make it past the initial round at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Their chances were hurt when the top player in the world got injured, tearing two ligaments in his adductor muscle.
Jimmer Fredette, a former BYU star and NBA draft pick, updated his Instagram about his injury. He was hurt early in the game against Poland on July 31, where he scored only three points. This injury ended his Olympic campaign and limited him to just two games in Paris. The U.S. team struggled and finished the tournament with a 2-7 record, placing seventh overall.
In his Instagram post, Fredette expressed frustration about his injury and inability to play with his team. He felt disappointed because they had worked hard over the past two years to qualify for the Olympics and had become the top team in the world. Fredette is expected to be out for six months. He said he was proud to play for the U.S. and thanked everyone who supported them.
Besides Jimmer Fredette, Team USA also included Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis. In the men’s semifinals, the Netherlands is playing against Lithuania, while Latvia is facing France.
Jimmer Fredette Was Excited to Play in the Olympics
Jimmer Fredette was excited about playing in the Paris Olympics because it was a dream he had wanted for a long time, even though he thought it might never come true.
The 35-year-old guard from New York, in an interview with ABC4 Sports, talked about how much the Olympics mean to him. He said he loves the Olympics, watches every event, and has always been a big fan. He’s a former BYU player who spent six NBA seasons before becoming well-known playing in China.
He didn’t think he’d get to play in the Olympics. It was only when USA 3×3 head coach Fran Franschilla asked him last summer if he’d be interested that he saw it as a chance. He had heard about the Olympics but never thought he’d get to play in them.
Jimmer Fredette’s time in the Olympics was cut short after just two games due to an injury. His team didn’t advance past the initial rounds. However, he is hopeful about recovering and trying again in the next Olympics in Los Angeles in four years.
