Ex-NBA Star Ben McLemore Faces Rape Charge in Oregon
So, there’s some serious stuff going on with former NBA player Ben McLemore. The police in Lake Oswego say he’s facing charges for something really bad. A sexual assault that allegedly happened back in October 2021 when he was still with the Blazers. Due to his bad luck, U.S. authorities arrested him. Marshals. They brought him in on Tuesday and stuck him in jail in Oregon. Now he’s got to deal with all this legal stuff. It’s a big deal and definitely not good news for McLemore.
You won’t believe it that Ben McLemore, the former NBA star, hasn’t played in the States since 2022. He’s been dribbling overseas in Spain. Authorities busted him at the Portland airport. The cops are dropping some heavy charges on him serious stuff like first-degree rape, unlawful sexual behavior, and a couple more bad accusations. McLemore’s in for a rough ride.
According to the Lake Oswego Police Department back on October 3,2021, a woman stepped up and said she’d been sexually assaulted at a fancy house in Lake Oswego by Ben McLemore. She pointed the finger at McLemore right away and reported it on the spot. On October 3, 2021, when McLemore was still with the Trail Blazers, there was this incident.
The cops got on it, gathering evidence and hooking the woman up with support. McLemore took off out of state and was bouncing around playing ball overseas, which slowed things down for the investigation.
Fast forward to February of this year, a grand jury heard the case, including the woman’s testimony, and slapped McLemore with an arrest warrant. U.S. Marshals swooped in and cuffed him at Portland International Airport.
Props to the survivor for speaking up, though. It’s not an easy road, but the cops are backing her all the way.
So, after the arrest, McLemore got booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon before getting moved to Clackamas County Jail. Then, on Wednesday afternoon, he had his day in court at Clackamas County Circuit Court.
Surprisingly, by Wednesday evening, he was outta there! Bail was set at $500,000, but he only needed to cough up $50,000 to get released.
But get this, McLemore’s lawyer and crew didn’t have much to say about the whole situation yet.
His next court date is July 1st, 10 a.m. PT in Oregon. Let’s see how this plays out.
Alright, let me break it down for you. McLemore had a solid run in the NBA, clocking in nine seasons and scoring an average of 9 points per game in 556 matches.
It all started when the Sacramento Kings snagged him as the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft from Kansas. Then, he bounced around the league, playing for the Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and finally the Blazers in his last NBA stint.
In his final NBA season in 2021-2022, he suited up for the Blazers for 64 games, putting up an average of 10.2 points in about 20 minutes per game.
But after that season, he took his game overseas, playing ball in China, Greece, and most recently, in Spain with Río Breogán in the Liga ACB. McLemore sure knows how to keep the ball rolling.
