For the 2026 World Cup, expanding to 48 teams will allow more teams to qualify. Conmebol will now have six direct spots and one playoff spot, compared to the previous four direct spots and one playoff.

  • Uruguay: 13 points, +8 goal difference
  • Colombia: 12 points, +3 goal difference
  • Venezuela: 9 points, -1 goal difference
  • Ecuador: 8 points, +2 goal difference
  • Brazil: 7 points, +1 goal difference
  • Bolivia: 6 points, -6 goal difference
  • Paraguay: 5 points, -2 goal difference
  • Chile: 5 points, -7 goal difference
  • Peru: 2 points, -7 goal difference

These changes provide more opportunities for teams like Colombia, which narrowly missed the World Cup last time. Old Cup by finishing sixth, just one point away from a playoff spot.
