Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has been in the running for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award all season. She’s mainly up against Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark for the title. Sue Bird comments on Angel Reese performance throughout the season and her growth potential.
Even though Clark is currently leading and many think she’ll win. Reese, who had season-ending wrist surgery, has still impressed with her performance.
Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, making her the only rookie this year with a double-double average. Standing at 6-foot-3, she made an immediate impact on the court. Sue Bird comments on Angel Reese, believing the WNBA rookie has the potential to be even better.
Bird recently talked about Angel Reese’s progress during her rookie season. She noted that Reese has been performing well but could improve by increasing her shooting percentage to reach the next level.

Bird mentioned that Reese isn’t “far off” from making this improvement. She said, “Reese knows what shots she’s getting. If she can raise her shooting percentage by just 3, 4, or 5 points, she could go from averaging 13 points and 13 rebounds to 18 points and 13 rebounds. The shots are there; she’s not far from that.”
By the end of the season, Angel Reese was shooting 39.1% from the field and 18.8% from three-point range. Though she’s not known for her three-point shooting.
Sue Bird believes some people have underestimated Reese because of her shooting stats. Bird said that while Angel Reese should work on improving her shooting, she has the potential to make those changes and show even more of her talent.
Sue Bird’s views are highly value in the WNBA. She retired in 2022 after being the top pick in the 2002 draft.
Bird is a top figure in the league’s history. She left the WNBA as a 4-time champion, and 13-time All-Star, and was named to the All-WNBA First Team five times and the All-WNBA Second Team three times.
