The Oscar-winning team is producing a new “Lord of the Rings” film set to release in 2026
The team that won an Oscar for the hugely successful “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies. Which made nearly $6 billion altogether, is getting back together. They’re coming together to make two brand new films.
On Thursday, Warner Bros. Discovery shared exciting news about the upcoming projects from the acclaimed team of Sir Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens. So, the first of these projects, tentatively titled “Lord of the Rings” The Hunt for Gollum,” was announced.
Andy Serkis, a familiar face from the “LOTR” series, is set to direct this film. So, joining him are Walsh and Boyens, who will be lending their talents to the screenplay alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
Andy Serkis, renowned for his portrayal of the character Gollum in the “LOTR” series, expressed his enthusiasm in a statement, saying, “Yesssss, Precious.” So, he conveyed his excitement for reuniting with his close friends Peter, Fran, and Philippa, who are the exceptional guardians of Middle Earth. Serkis eagerly anticipated embarking on another adventure into the unknown with them.
In a joint statement, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens expressed their honor and privilege at the prospect of returning to Middle earth alongside their close friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis.
They mentioned Serkis’s “unfinished business” with the character Gollum, indicating their excitement for the project. As lifelong fans of Professor Tolkien’s expansive mythology, they conveyed pride in working with Warner Bros., specifically mentioning Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy, and the entire team, on what promises to be another epic adventure.
The forthcoming films are slated for release through Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema. While, it’s important to highlight that Warner Bros. falls under the umbrella of CNN’s parent company.
